Who needs a visa to enter Algeria?

All non-algerians need to apply for a visa to enter Algeria. Some nationals of foreign countries listed below are exempted from visa:

  1. Nationals from the following countries do not require a visa to travel to Algeria:
       Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Seychelles, Tunisia, Yemen.
  2. Nationals of the states mentioned below, holding diplomatic passports do not need a visa to travel to Algeria:
       Argentina, Croitia, France, Germany, Hungary , Romania.
  3. Nationals of the States mentioned below, holding diplomatic or official passports (passeports de service) do not need a visa to travel to Algeria:
       Albanie, Benin, Brazil, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gréce, Guinea, Italy, Malaysia, Mali, Malta, Mexico, Niger, Peru, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Senegal, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, Vietnam.

Who can apply for a visa?

The Algerian Embassy  in Budapest will process visa applications made by applicants residing in Hungary and the Republic of Slovenia only. Others foreign citizens must provide proof of residence in Hungary and Slovenia;

Regardless their age, kids traveling with parents need a visa. Application must be made.

Lodging of applications:

Applicants must lodge their applications in person  (no spouse or other third person except for companies, in that case power of attorney needs to be presented ) at the Embassy between 9:00 am - 13:00 pm, on Tuesday and  Thursday only  (Except for national holidays, please see Opening hours & holidays on the  page for more details);


Journalist visa:


Journalists wishing to travel to Algeria for the purpose of a temporary mission or in order to accompany an official delegation, are requested to submit their visa application 15 days prior to their mission in Algeria.

Note: any incomplete application, including the form, will be either rejected if lodged in person at the Embassy or returned to the sender if made by mail.

Application forms:

The application forms must be fully filled on screen (Answer all the questions and fill out all the sections), printed, dated and signed by the applicant;

Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected;

The application form is not electronically sent and data are not stored in our database, the applicants must bring or send it by post to the Algerian Embassy (visa section).

Documents required for all visa types: 


Invitation letter:

Issued by person residing in Algeria that includes the arrival and leaving dates Or  invitation for a trip organised by travel agency that includes program of the trip .


1- For business VISA invitation is made by the company inviting the person.

2- For work visa, work permit issued by Algerian authorities  is required

Marriage certificate:

Marriage certificate is required for persons who are applying for family visas.


Passport must have at least six months remaining validity and contain at least two (02) blank visa pages for visa to be issued.


3 Photos must be recent, frontal-view, of the same batch, untouched and taken on white background and showing applicant wearing no glasses of any kind, except for prescription eyewear. Please write first and last names of applicant with a pencil on back of the photos.


Work certificate:

 Original work certificate  that needs to be obtained from emplyer  or  a signed and stamped certificate by person concerned  for self employed persons.

Travel insurance:

The travel insurance is mandatory for the citizens of the following countries:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands (The), New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.


Visa fees:

Visa fees vary according to the visa type , duration of stay, number of entries (single or multiple) and the nationality of the applicant. Check below for the amount of the visa fee.

The visa fee must be paid  by bank transfer only to the following account number and in euro currency only:

VISAS application fees in EURO 

VISA FOR PERIOD OF STAY UNDER 90 DAYS : 80,00  euros + 25 euros (processing fee) which makes total of 105 euros

VISA FOR PERIOD OF STAY EQUAL OR  ABOVE 90 DAYS: 100,00 euros + 25 euros (processing fee) which makes total of 125 euros.




        1- please note that these fees are non-refundable if your visa application is denied or cancelled.

          2- Please include a copy of the bank transfer with the visa application documents

          3- Short term visa (under 90 days)

                3-1 kids under 6 years old are exempt of visa fee, they will be charged only for processing visa fee which  is 25 euros.

                3- 2- Kids between 6 and 12 years old are charged of 40 euros (visa fee) +  25 euros (processing fee) which makes total of                             65 euros.

          4- Long term visa ( 90 days and more ): 

              - Adult category fees applies for all ages which is:

                 VISA FOR PERIOD OF STAY UNDER 90 DAYS : 80,00  euros + 25 euros (processing fee) which makes total of 105 euros

                 VISA FOR PERIOD OF STAY EQUAL OR  ABOVE 90 DAYS: 100,00 euros + 25 euros (processing fee) which makes total of                     125 euros

Residence permit: (Applicable for persons who applies with none Hungarian or Slovenian passports)

Processing time:

The minimum processing time of visa is 10 business days but may vary according to the nationality of the applicant and the visa type.

During certain periods of the year (summer holidays, New Year's holidays, Ramadhan, Eid celebrations), the processing time may be extended by 5 more working days for each period indicated above. This is due to the high volume of applications being processed;

The processing of an application may be delayed if prior agreement by Algerian authorities is required. The Embassy reserves the right to request additional documentation from applicants;

The Embassy has no express service to process applications merely due to planed travel date, the consulate advise also not to buy non-refudable or non-flexible ticket until the visa is issued;

The date of departure does not affect the processing time of the visa;

The responsibility of any financial loss occured lies with the applicant(s);

Return of passports:

Applicants may pick up their passports at the Embassy between 14:00 - 15:30 Pm Tuesday to Friday (please see Opening hours & holidays page for more details).

Period of stay (durée de séjour):

Single entry visa : you can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively;

Multiple entry visa : you can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively or you can stay multiple time deducting the number of days you have stayed each time you enter Algeria;

Visitors must make travel arrangements to Algeria based on the date of entry indicated on their visa. Visitors must not arrive in Algeria before that date;

Visitors must leave Algeria before the expiry date shown on the top right hand corner on the visa sticker;

The maximum period of effective stay in Algeria is 180 days per year.
